Supporting Yourself While You Support Others
Workplace Wellness Week 2026 — in partnership with The Care Workers’ Charity
Supporting your wellbeing has never been more important. Mental Health UK’s latest Annual Burnout Report reveals just how widespread stress has become across the country, with one in three adults (34%) experiencing high or extreme levels of pressure “always” or “often” last year almost unchanged from the previous year. With 91% of people reported feeling significant stress at some point, care workers face a reality many already know too well: wellbeing isn’t a luxury, it’s essential.
This Workplace Wellness Week, we’re encouraging every care worker to prioritise their own wellness, even in small, manageable ways. Looking after yourself isn’t selfish, it’s essential.
When you feel supported, energised and grounded, the people you care for benefit too.
1. Build Small Moments of Rest Into Your Day
You don’t need hours to reset, even a few minutes of breathing, stretching, or sitting quietly with a cup of tea can help lower stress and improve clarity.
Try:
- 60‑second breathing exercises between visits
- A short stretch when you return to your car
- A “pause moment” before entering a new environment
Tiny resets add up.
2. Move Your Body in Ways That Feel Good
Care work involves a lot of physical effort, but we often forget to move in ways that support our own bodies, not just our work.
Small habits can help strengthen your back, posture and energy levels:
- A short walk on your lunch break
- Gentle mobility exercises at home
- Staying hydrated throughout your shift
Your body is one of your most important tools, treat it kindly.
3. Talk About How You’re Feeling
Caring can bring emotional highs and lows. Some days feel rewarding, others feel heavy.
It’s okay to talk about it.
Reach out to:
- A trusted colleague
- A manager
- A friend or family member
- Support services like The Care Workers’ Charity, which offers mental health support and counselling
Sharing how you feel is a strength, not a weakness.
4. Ask for Help When You Need It
You don’t have to carry everything alone.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, worried about finances, or need emotional support, help is available.
The Care Workers’ Charity offers:
- Crisis grants
- Mental health support
- Guidance during challenging times
You work tirelessly to support others — let others support you too.
5. Celebrate Yourself
Care workers often forget how extraordinary they are.
This week, take a moment to recognise:
- The comfort you bring
- The difference you make
- The patience you show
- The lives you impact
Your work matters. You matter.
Wellbeing isn’t about big changes, it’s about small, consistent acts of kindness toward yourself.
This Workplace Wellness Week, we hope you’ll make space for your health, your happiness, and your own needs.
Because when care workers thrive, so do the people they support.
